The Lynx field hockey team took down the Transylvania Pioneers 4-0 today in a noon contest in Lexington, KY. The Lynx came out of the blocks strong with sophomore Lindsey Gurkovich (Eldersburg, MD/Century) scoring her first of three goals on the day just 8 minutes into play. Gurkovich scored on a feed from Charlie Wager during a penalty corner play to secure the game winner. Lindsey followed with two more goals for the hat trick in just 31 minutes of play. Gurkovich's second and third goals were assisted by Megan Hauver and Hillary Relyea. The hat trick was Lindsey's first of her collegiate career. After scoring 4 goals this weekend Lindsey now leads the Lynx in scoring with 7 goals and 2 assists in 6 games. Hillary Relyea (Fort Worth, TX/FWCDS) padded the Lynx lead with an unassisted goal just before the first half ended. Despite pressure from Transylvania the Lynx held on for their 4th shutout of the season. The Lynx played 24 players in the match and were aided by strong play from both goalkeepers, Meghan Cullen and Valerie Clarke, and defenders Sara Sanders, Rachel Webb, and Maria Cowley. The Pioneers held a 10-5 advantage in penalty corners while the Lynx out shot Transy 16-9. After an off weekend, Rhodes (6-0) will open their home schedule with a JV game against the University of Missouri club team (Saturday 9/27, 1 pm) and a SCAC rematch versus Sewanee (Sunday 9/28, Noon).
